PRESIDENT’S
LIPI CHAUDHURY
Since her childhood, Smt. Lipi Chaudhury has nurtured a deep and abiding love for the arts—especially Indian classical dance and its subtle, expressive nuances. Alongside shaping her mellifluous voice through rigorous vocal training, she explored the enriching world of dance with equal passion. Though extensively trained in Kathak, her artistic curiosity naturally gravitated toward other Shastriya Nritya Kalas as well, including the lyrical charm of Odissi. Gifted with artistic versatility, she was also adept in various forms of fine craftwork that further enriched her creative spirit.
Academically accomplished, Smt. LipiChaudhury completed her B.Sc (Hons.) in Zoology, followed by a B.Ed and later an M.A in Bengali. In parallel with her academic pursuits, she obtained Diplomas in Kathak, Rabindra Nritya, and Rabindra Sangeet, her euphonious voice earning her distinction at Dakshinee. Since 2005, she has been receiving advanced vocal training in Rabindra Sangeet under the tutelage of the eminent singer Smt. Pramita Mullick. She has also served in the noble profession of teaching as a faculty member in the Higher Secondary section, Department of Biological Science.
Her creative journey continues to blossom—recently, she trained in the traditional art form of Shantiniketan Alpana under the guidance of Shri Sudhiranjan Mukhopadhyay.
Presently, she serves as the President of Nrityam ODC, having established the organisation as its Founding Member. With her vision and nurturing leadership, she has guided Nrityam’s growth from its very inception.
Birth of Nrityam
NRITYAM began its humble yet promising journey under her guidance as a Kathak training institute. In its early years, a small group of students learned Shashtriya Kathak Nritya, along with Rabindra Nritya and Creative Dance.
In 2013, a new chapter unfolded when her daughter, Ms. Neeladyuti Chaudhury, re-envisioned the institution and transformed it into a dedicated Odissi academy. Thus, NRITYAM evolved into the NRITYAM ODISSI DANCE CENTRE, carrying forward the legacy with renewed purpose and artistic depth.
In the Words of the President
NRITYAM Odissi Dance Centre began its magical journey with a singular mission—to shape the future of Odissi dance. This sublime path has been illuminated by divine knowledge and the spiritual understanding of dance as a sacred art form.
It is my cherished dream to see NRITYAM emerge as a distinguished institution of Odissi training. Here, students are guided not only in the purest traditions of the dance but are also nurtured to grow into self-reliant, responsible individuals.
May the rich cultural ethos find a permanent place in their hearts, empowering them to carry forward the legacy of this institution with pride—today, and in the years to come.”
