COURSE PLAN AT NRITYAM : ODISSI DANCE CENTRE
Preserving Tradition • Nurturing Expression • Building Strong Foundations
At NRITYAM : Odissi Dance Centre, we uphold the pure and authentic tradition of the Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra Gharana, offering students a systematic, disciplined, and holistic training in Odissi dance. Our thoughtfully structured curriculum is designed to nurture physical strength, rhythmic accuracy, expressive depth, and spiritual awareness, allowing each student to evolve as a complete artiste.
Odissi dance training forms the very core of Nrityam’s pedagogical vision. The regular Odissi course has been specially designed for students residing in Kolkata and its surrounding regions, enabling them to benefit from consistent, weekly classroom training under close guidance.
The course spans a minimum period of ten years and beyond, reflecting the traditional guru–shishya approach that values patience, dedication, and deep-rooted learning. The training culminates in a comprehensive Odissi Dance Examination recognised by Rabindra Bharati University, upon successful completion of which the student is awarded a Diploma equivalent to a Master’s Degree in Dance.
The classes at Nrityam are rigorous and immersive, extending far beyond physical practice. Along with intensive dance training and conditioning, students receive a strong grounding in Odissi music, the Tala (rhythmic) system, and an introduction to the rich heritage of Indian classical arts and its underlying value systems. This integrated approach ensures that every student not only learns the art form, but also imbibes its philosophy, discipline, and cultural ethos
