A Production by Nrityam Odissi Dance Centre (2016)

Direction & Choreography: Neeladyuti Chaudhury

“Tribute to Indian Music” was a special thematic production presented by Nrityam Odissi Dance Centre in 2016, conceptualised, directed, and choreographed by Neeladyuti Chaudhury. The production was created as a heartfelt homage to three legendary composers whose music has left an indelible mark on the history of Indian cinema and music — Naushad, R. D. Burman, and Salil Chowdhury.

The presentation celebrated the timeless beauty, emotional depth, and musical genius of these maestros whose compositions continue to inspire listeners across generations. Each segment of the production was carefully designed around some of their most memorable musical creations, bringing together music, movement, and visual storytelling to create an immersive stage experience.

The production highlighted the distinctive musical identities of the three composers. Naushad’s compositions, known for their strong roots in Indian classical traditions and melodic grandeur, set the tone for graceful and expressive interpretations on stage. R. D. Burman’s music, celebrated for its innovation, rhythm, and modern sensibility, inspired vibrant and energetic choreographic sequences. The poetic and socially resonant compositions of Salil Chowdhury brought a lyrical and emotionally rich dimension to the performance.
Through a thoughtful blend of choreography, group formations, and expressive storytelling, the dancers brought alive the moods, emotions, and narratives embedded within the music. The production aimed to create a bridge between generations, allowing audiences to rediscover the beauty of these iconic melodies through the language of performance.

Under the artistic direction of Neeladyuti Chaudhury, “Tribute to Indian Music” emerged as a sincere celebration of India’s rich musical heritage. The production honoured the enduring legacy of these legendary composers while demonstrating how their music continues to inspire new forms of artistic expression on stage.

“Tribute to Indian Music” remains a memorable milestone for Nrityam Odissi Dance Centre, reflecting its dedication to presenting meaningful thematic productions that celebrate the timeless treasures of Indian music and culture.
